LL.M. Admissions Overview Washington University School of Law seeks students whose academic abilities meet the rigorous demands of our top-ranked program. Applications are now being accepted for the following start dates. You are encouraged to submit your completed application as soon as possible.
Applications are reviewed as they are completed, and admissions decisions will be made on a rolling basis. The LL.M. Program offers foreign-trained lawyers the ability to begin their course of study during one of four start times per year (January, April, July and October), starting with our first cohort in January, 2013. Program Start Date - Application Deadline: January 14, 2013 - September 24, 2012 April 1, 2013 - December 3, 2012 Complete Application Requirements: The following information must be on file in order for your application to be considered complete: Submitted online application; Application fee payment or waiver; If applicable, English proficiency test score; Two letters of recommendation; Official transcripts from all educational institutions attended; and Personal interview. Essays There are two essay questions on the application that will be used to evaluate your written communication skills.
The essays should be no more than two double-spaced pages. The two essays should: Identify the subject areas in which you would like to direct your legal studies, stating the specific courses that interest you and why you are pursuing those subjects. Include any prior training or education you have in these areas. Tell us about past experiences that have been important in your decision to pursue an LL.M. degree, your career plans following your graduate studies and how an LL.M. degree from Washington University School of Law will advance your professional goals. Letters Of Recommendation You must submit two professional or academic recommendations with your application. Applicants do not need to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score if either: They earned an undergraduate or graduate degree at a U.S. college or university; Their total education was conducted in a country where English is the native language. Personal Interview An interview is required for admission into the LL.M. Program . After we receive your application, we will contact you to set up a personal interview. Interviews will be conducted in English via video conference using a basic webcam, which is integrated into most laptop computers. We will invite you to participate in the interview after we have received transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate coursework.
Application Fee The application fee for the LL.M. program is $70, and it is non-refundable. Candidates who qualify for an application-fee waiver must send a formal request to their admissions counselor along with supporting documentation before submitting the application. A refund cannot be issued for an application fee already paid. Tuition Tuition for the 2013-14 academic year is $2,085 per credit. There are 24 credits required to complete the program. Total tuition cost is $50,040. *Tuition and fees are set for two years upon enrollment. Aid for International Students International students should explore funding options in their home countries. Talk with your employer about tuition benefits that may be available to you, including tuition reimbursement and low-cost loans.
Based on your country of residence you may also have access to education loans through private lenders. United States Federal Financial Aid To qualify for Unites States federal financial aid through the U.S. Department of Education, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. The sources of aid are the Federal Direct Stafford Loan program and the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan program. Consistent with the policy of most professional schools, we assume that you will bear the primary cost burden of your educational expenses. Therefore, long-term loans are the primary source of financial assistance.
To apply for loans, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Washington University Application for Financial Aid. The Law School application for financial aid can be completed online: Online Application for New Students Online Application for Returning Students To ensure that loans are disbursed on a timely basis, you should start the financial aid loan process no later than 60 days prior to the start of your first term. Tuition Bill Tuition bills are issued electronically after you register for each term. The tuition due date is noted on the bill. A 2% late fee will be assessed on any unpaid balance of tuition if not paid by the due date. All students will automatically receive an e-mail notification when a new invoice has been generated, and they will have the ability to view their invoice online immediately.
You can select to pay your balance directly from your checking or savings account by registering your bank account. Students can also have any student loan refund check direct deposited to their checking or savings account. Students enrolling for the first time at Washington University School of Law will receive information on how to register for ePayment and eRefund. Returning students can log into their Web STAC account and register for ePayment and eRefund. Withdrawing from Classes Students considering withdrawing from school are encouraged to consult with their Student Services advisor. To withdraw, a student should provide written notification to the LL.M. Program at Washington University Law.
